Aim

This meeting is a continuation of the eleven previous workshops held since 1985. As in the past, the aim of the meeting is to present and discuss the latest science in skeletal biology, both in health and disease, and the latest information in the field of bone therapeutics.  In the past, bone therapeutics has been dominated by the bisphosphonates, but this meeting will also dedicate substantial time to other developing therapeutic classes.

Who Should Attend

The meeting will be attended by about 700 delegates from all over the world.  Delegates will be from academia, industry and clinical practice, and will be researching, teaching or practicing across the broad areas of bone biology and bone disease. The professional groups represented will include: cell and molecular biology, pharmacology, physiology, dental research, endocrinology, epidemiology, genetics, geriatric medicine, gynecology, internal medicine, medical oncology, orthopedics, pediatrics, radiology, nuclear medicine, and rheumatology.

Educational Objectives

The Educational Objectives of the meeting are to present the most recent scientific findings on:

  • The biology of the bone forming cells (osteoblasts)
  • The biology of the bone resorbing cells (osteoclasts)
  • The regulation of bone metabolism
  • Muscle and its affects on bone
  • Strategies for treating osteoporosis
  • Strategies for treating Paget’s disease of bone
  • The mechanisms of metastasis of malignancy to bone
  • Strategies for treating metastatic malignancy to bone
