Welcome

The International Bone and Mineral Society (IBMS) and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven) are excited to welcome you to the second Herbert Fleisch Workshop, to be held in Brugge, Belgium: 28 February – 1 March 2016The meeting will start on Sunday Feb 28th around noon, continue on Feb 29th, and finish in the evening of March 1st 2016.

The Conference is named in honour of the late Herbert Fleisch, and in recognition of the wonderful workshops that he hosted over several decades in Davos, Switzerland, where he always insisted on special attention being paid to the presentations of young scientists, whether they were in poster or oral format.

    Meeting Objectives

The objective of the conference is to provide a Gordon-conference style forum for students, post-docs and early stage principal investigators to present work in progress, discuss thoroughly and network with peers, and get constructive feedback from experienced senior scientists.

    • Discuss science in progress with peers and senior scientists
    • Network with scientists with similar interests and complementary expertise
    • Showcase unpublished data to generate discussion and constructive feedback

    Meeting Structure

    • Six sessions led by the invited senior scientists (see Scientific Program page), who will each present a 45 minute state-of-the-art lecture, followed by extensive discussion and presentation of submitted work by participants.
    • Senior investigators will comment, critique, advise and mentor young investigators on their work throughout the meeting, during oral or poster presentations, and during times set up for networking.
    • Interactive workshops will be held on key methodologies in bone research.
    • Joint meals and accommodation embedded in the conference hotel will ensure ample time for personal interactions and networking.

Limited Places! Workshop attendance is limited to 150 attendees. Registration and Abstract Submission will open on September 1, 2015.

Participants are strongly encouraged to submit abstracts that showcase unpublished data, to foster discussion and constructive feedback in ample poster, oral, and clustered discussion sessions. Oral presentations will be selected from the abstracts. Abstract deadline is 7 December, 2015. Competitive travel grants will be provided by IBMS and (inter)national bone societies (more information coming soon).

All are welcome as participants, with priority in programming given to young scientists, including students, post-docs and early stage principal investigators.
